Katie Sabry – Painter, mosaicist, all-round creative

Visitors welcome!

My studio, gallery and home are all situated inside a traditional 200-year-old house in the picturesque village of Psematismenos, located between Limassol and Larnaca. Come, look at my paintings and mosaics for sale. Or book mosaic lessons, held in my courtyard year round.

Enjoy your journey through my dreams and memories, my colourful world…

Born on the Isle of Man, I grew up mostly in Cyprus, with short spells in England, Spain and Lebanon. After finishing school in Nicosia, I travelled to Italy to learn the language prior to beginning my art studies. Between 1979 and 1986 I lived and worked in Paderborn, Germany. In March 1987, I opened my first studio in Limassol and have lived and worked here ever since.

I’ve drawn and painted for as long as I can remember. It’s my first love and passion. It takes me to a place where time stops and I’m in a meditative space.

As an artist, life in Cyprus is my influence and inspiration. My landscape, botanical and still life watercolours are usually painted from life. I enjoy the immediacy of watercolour, a snapshot of a moment, capturing the feeling of sitting out under an olive tree on a hot day. Or watching the stormy sea on a cold winter’s day. Working in changing light is a creative challenge, often leading to unpredictable results.

Between 1987 and 2001 I designed and made stained glass windows, lampshades, and other decorative ‘Tiffany glass’ objects. I began making mosaics in 1997, using a mixture of stained glass pieces too small for stained glass work, and vitreous tiles. More recently, I’ve added discarded broken china and pottery, various found objects, old jewellery, furniture, as I’m especially interested in the concept of minimising waste.
